Repair Sun-Damaged Skin With IPL Photo Facial

woman lying on beachYou’ve spent the summer enjoying the pool and sun. Though you’ve used some sun protection, you’ve noticed some dark spots, darkened freckles, and possible sun damage on your skin, leaving you with uneven pigmentation and a slightly blotchy appearance. Those who live in cities with a high UV index like Frisco are at a greater risk for premature skin aging. What can you do to mitigate the damage? Consider IPL Photo Facial treatment at Azure Medical Spa.

What is IPL?

Often simply referred to as IPL (Intense Pulse Light) or Photo Facial, this treatment uses high intensity pulses of light to improve the tone and texture of sun damaged or blemished skin. IPL treatments use a hand piece to gently glide over the skin emitting soft pulses of light, which stimulates collagen growth & skin rejuvenation. IPL is considered a non-invasive and non-ablative treatment, which means the top layer of the skin is not damaged. Unlike lasers that deliver only one wavelength, IPL systems deliver multiple wavelengths, allowing them to target several conditions with each treatment.

Treatments last approximately thirty to forty-five minutes, during which the light pulses penetrate the tissue. If targeting vascular lesions, the light pulses are absorbed by the blood. If treating pigmented lesions, the light pulses are absorbed by the melanin. This damages the tissue and the body then begins the natural process of removing these affected tissues, and generating new collagen and connective tissue. These new tissues help to better support the upper skin layer, making skin appear smoother and giving it an improved tone. Three to five treatment sessions generally provide optimal results.

IPL can improve the effects of sun damage, rosacea, and brown spots on the face, hands, and body. It has also been used to reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes, and fine lines around the eyes and mouth.

What Can I Expect After IPL?

While there is little to no recuperation time, your skin will experience some redness. You may resume normal activities immediately following the treatment, including applying fresh makeup. Any freckles and sunspots will darken noticeably until sloughing off five to seven days later. As a result, freckles and brown spots, discolorations, redness, broken capillaries, and ruddiness will be significantly decreased and sometimes eliminated. Rosacea, fine lines and wrinkles, pore size, and dark circles under the eyes are reduced as a result of this treatment, and overall improved skin tone is gradually seen.
